San Juan, Puerto Rico – The International Basketball Federation of the Americas and Canada Basketball, are preparing for what will be the first stop on the road to the 2015 FIBA Americas Women’s Championship, the tournament’s draw, to be celebrated on Edmonton’s City Hall on March 3rd.
The Continental Championship, is classificatory to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, will count with the participation of:
The Host: Canada
The South American Teams: Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile and Ecuador.
The Caribbean Teams: the defending continental champion, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and US Virgin Islands.
The pairs of the Draws are configured as follows:
Cuba – Argentina
Puerto Rico – Venezuela
Dominican Republic – US Virgin Islands
Chile – Ecuador
Brazil – Canada
In the Draw, the participating teams will be divided into two groups that in the competition will play a first round of round-robin. At the end of the first group the top two teams of each group, will qualify to the Semifinals, were the 1st place of Group A, will face the 2nd place of Group B and vice-versa. The winning teams will play for the Gold-Medal, while the other teams will play for the Bronze-Medal.
