EDMONTON (2015 FIBA AMERICAS WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP) - The last day of the group stage in 2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship features four deciding games relevant to either the seeding of the semifinals or to determine the two teams that will play for fifth place and the last spot for next year's FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The day starts with two games: Venezuela vs Ecuador vs Chile and Puerto Rico. The winners of both games will play each other on Saturday for the fifth place and final spot in the 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The automatic qualification spot given to Brazil for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games and the fact that the team has advanced to the semifinals, gave the fifth place of the championship an added value for four teams still looking to keep their Olympic dream alive.
Meanwhile, the second session of the last day in the group stage features continental rivalries between four teams looking to determine the seedings of the semifinals of the competition.
Cuba vs Canada represents a rematch of the Gold Medal game of the 2013 edition of the FIBA Americas Women's Championship. Both teams have been involved in several highly emotional games in recent years and this one, to remain undefeated and get the top spot in Group A, is sure to be no exception.
Group B will write another chapter in the eternal sporting rivalry between Argentina and Brazil that promises to be a competitive affair taking into consideration the warrior spirit that both teams have shown in the first part of this competition. While it is true that the definition of seedings for the semifinals are at stake, these two countries in a sporting clash guarantee a great conclusion to the group stage of the championship.
