Question: A4 attempt to save the ball by merely touching it from going out of bounds in their front court but due to the force of the tapped the ball returned to the backcourt and A2 recovered it at the backcourt.Is it a backcourt violation or not?A certain Lecturer said that there is a difference between holding & mere touching of the ball since this is an unintentional situation just to save the ball,however i am confused because it contradicts the theory of the backcourt of first & last to touch the ball.Thank you!!Answer: Assuming that team A was in control of the ball at the time it was touched by A4, then the ball has been illegally returned to the backcourt.

Question: Hi this is still puzzling us.. I checked the FIBA rules-book from their website (not where you linked by the way) and there was no mention of this question.. So the question is what is the difference between an NBA assist and a FIBA assist.. Googling didnt help either :-) ThanksAnswer: Visit www.fiba.com. At the bottom of the home page, under "About FIBA", click on Official Documents, and then on "Other Official Documents". Near the bottom of the documents presented, you will find "Basketball Statistics Manual". As for what the NBA considers an "assist", you'll have to contact the NBA.

Question: Good day sir. During end of the 1st period and before the start of the 2nd period. Coach of team A was charged with a TF. assuming the Arrow possession favors team A. After the 2 free throws of team B for the TF. Who will be awarded the possession for the start of the 2nd period? thank you. Answer: The 2nd period will begin with a throw-in for team B resulting from the technical foul penalty. This team B throw-in is not an AP throw-in. Team A shall continue to be entitled to the ball when the next alternating possession situation occurs

Question: This is a question about "the cylinder."
As player A1 shoots the ball, player B1 reaches in to player A1's cylinder to block the shot. Player B1 contacts the ball, AND player A1's hand, directly above player A1's head, within A1's cylinder.
Is the block a foul, or is it permitted? I remember a quote "contact with the hand, in an attempt to play the ball, shall be considered incidental, and shall not be considered a foul."Answer: This statement was deleterd from the FIBA rules some time ago. The question of whether or not a foul occurred is dependent on the judgment of the official as to whether an unfair advantage was generated by the contact.
