MIAMI (Americas League) - The Miami Tropics were the first team from the United Staes to confirm their participation in the FIBA Americas League that begins on December 4.
In a press conference held in Miami, the club President, Art Alvarez, accepted the invitation by FIBA Americas. At the same time, they signed their head coach and first player.
Their head coach will be Don Kelbick who has experience at the college level and trains many NBA players.
Karel Rosario, a 6'9" center, became the first player signed. The Tropics had a 18-5 record in the ABA.
The FIBA Americas League will have 16 of the best clubs in our zone. This tournament will help improve the level of basketball played by giving players the opportunity to play at an international level.
"We couldn't have a league of the Americas without the United States," said FIBA Americas Secretary General, Alberto Garcia, during the press conference.
