
MAR DEL PLATA - Peñarol Mar del Plata, who celebrated their FIBA Americas League title on February, is now on first place of the Argentinean National League after crushing Gimnasia y Esgrima (CR) 96-47 on Sunday.
In that win Alejandro Diez scored 17 points and Sebastian Vega 13. Peñarol leads the league with 53 points, 2.5 more than second place team Atenas.
Atenas took a step back on the first place race by losing to Regatas Corrientes 79-73. Federico Kammerichs led Regatas with 21 points and 20 rebounds. In the loss Juan Locatelli scored 20 points and Diego Lo Grippo 17.
Boca Juniors is third with 49.5 points and they come from beating Estudiantes de Bahia Blanca 71-68. Gabriel Mikulas scored 20 points and Brian Woodward 14 for Boca.
Quimsa Santiago del Estero continues their steady climb in the standings with a win over Union de Sunchales 91-84. Dionisio Gomez scored 19 points and Omar Gil 15 for the winners who are fourth with 48.5 points.
In other results Central Entrerriano edged Atletico Lanus 74-71, La Union de Formosa beat Ciclista Olimpico 74-68, Quilmes defeated Obras Sanitarias 101-91 and Libertad won over Juventud Sionista 85-81.
