
SAN JUAN (Marchand Continental Championship Cup) - Brazil won once again the Marchand Continental Championship Cup by beating Canada 87-69.
Leandrinho Barbosa from the Phoenix Suns netted 27 points and was selected as the MVP of the cup. Barbosa shot 10-14 from the field, 4-5 from three and 3-4 from the free throw line in 33:51 played.
Tiago Splitter followed with 16 and Marcelinho Machado had a complete game with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Barbosa made the first eight points of the Brazilians and finished with 13 of the 19 points scored as they won 19-15. In the second quarter both teams played with a lot of defensive intensity and the Brazilians finished up 36-26.
In the third quarter the trio of Splitter, Varejao and Barbosa kept the Brazilians with the lead and stayed consistent to get their third win.
"The key for our win was that we played good defense. They always had a hand up in each one of their attempts," said the center of the Brazilian team, Tiago Splitter.
Carl English had 22 points and Joel Anthony 14 for Canada who had a bad night defensively after allowing just 60 and 72 points in the first two nights.
