Brazil got its first win of the Pan American Games by defeating Puerto Rico, 62-57, while the national teams of Cuba, Canada, and the United States added wins to their records.

The first day of Women's Basketball in the Pan American Games in Toronto 2015, handed victories for Cuba over Argentina, 68-55, Puerto Rico over the Dominican Republic, 76-54, Canada over Venezuela, 101-38 and United States over Brazil, 75-69.

Canada should look a little different this summer when they host the Pan American Games and the FIBA Americas Women's Championship. Canada want to maintain their tough-as-nails defense that has frustrated many opponents in recent times, but aim to quicken the pace on offense.

Kelly Santos is a three-time Olympian. She is also 35 years of age and hasn't played for Brazil the past four summers. Don't write off the 1.92m center's chances of representing her country at next year's Olympics, though. She has returned to the national team set-up this summer and will compete at the Pan American Games in Toronto.

The 1.75m point guard was only 19 years of age when she traveled to London for the 2012 Olympics and lived an experience than all sportsmen dream of. Later that year, however, Carcavalli suffered a serious knee injury that knocked her off the hardwood for two campaigns.
