COL - South American Championship semifinals begin today:

NEIVA (2010 South American Championship for Men) - The semifinals of the 2010 South American Championship begin today at 15:00 (local time) in Neiva, Colombia with a total of five games on schedule.

The day begins with the game between Ecuador and Paraguay at 15:00 and then Colombia faces Chile at 17:00. The winners will play for fifth place and the losers for seventh on Saturday.

In the semifinals Uruguay plays Argentina at 19:00 and then Brazil takes on Venezuela at 21:00 where the winners go for the Gold medal and the losers for Bronze. The top three teams qualify for the 2011 Pan-American Games and the semifinalists already qualified for the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championship.

In the preliminary round, Stalin Ortiz of Colombia finished as the best scorer with 78 points for an average of 26.0 in three games. In rebounds Guillermo Araujo of Paraguay averaged 11.7 per game and was followed by Esteban Batista of Uruguay with 11.0.
