PUR - All set for the Tuto Marchand Continental Cup
The press conference had the presence of the Mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz, the President of FIBA Americas, Horacio Muratore, the assistant Secretary of the Department of Recreation and Sports of Puerto Rico, Juan "Pucho" Figueroa, the President of the Basketball Federation of Puerto Rico, Carlos Beltran and Jenaro "Tuto" Marchand.
"For San Juan the sport is the backbone for the development of the youth" quoted the Mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz. She added: "This tournament is important for us because it revolves around such an important figure for Puertorrican basketball like Tuto Marchand."
"It is an honor to return to the Roberto Clemente Coliseum that for several years served as the home of FIBA Americas" quoted Horacio Muratore, President of FIBA Americas. Muratore reported: "The Continental Cup is the possibility for the name Tuto Marchand to be left in the history of basketball.... for FIBA Americas is a pleasure that the tournament will be in San Juan”.
"We are honored to be part of this tournament and even more honored when the Continental Cup is named after a person who I can say is like my dad and a person who helped me in my basketball career." Said the Sub- Secretary of Sports and Recreation of Puerto Rico, Juan "Pucho" Figueroa.
"Five years ago I was honored that a Continental tournament will have my name." Said Jenaro "Tuto" Marchand. Marchand added, "But now is an even greater honor that the Cup has as a home this Coliseum, were I gave my first steps in this sport of basketball."
"We have to thank FIBA Americas for trusting us with this tournament". Added the President of the Basketball Federation of Puerto Rico, Carlos Beltran. "It is a great pleasure to have this tournament here in Puerto Rico" and Beltran concluded the press conference.
