FAU16 - United States is the FIBA Americas U16 Champion!
Maldonado, Uruguay - In front of a full crowd at the Campus of Maldonado, the game for the gold medal of the FIBA Americas U16 Championship was played between Argentina and the United States. The North Americans dominated the game from the second quarter, forward and claimed victory, 94-48, winning the FIBA Americas U16 Championship for the third time in three editions. The USA’s Malik Newman was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Championship.
The second quarter started with a three-pointer from Argentine, Martin Fernandez. United States retaliated with a three-point of their own, Jayson Tatum and in a blink of eyes the USA took a 28 point advantage, 43-15 to end the first half. The best scorer of the first half for the Americans was, Ivan Rabb with 8 points.
And from then on the game went on autopilot, with a quintet of Argentina that as it did throughout the tournament did not let up and left everything on the court, but they could not handle the power of a United States which dominated the Championship from start to finish, this time with a 94-48 victory.
