PUR – Telemundo, official channel of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Telemundo of Puerto Rico announced the acquisition of the rights for the transmission of the 2014 Centrobasket, 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship. After the success with the transmission of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, the President of Telemundo of Puerto Rico, Mr. José Cancela made the announcement of the acquisition at a press conference .


"Telemundo will be the exclusive channel of the 2014 Centrobasket, the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship. Due to the celebration of the 60 years of our channel, we will transmit at least 60 games of the FIBA World Cup. We promise to convey all games of Puerto Rico and the USA Team in Telemundo and the other games in Punto 2," informed, Mr. Cancela. "We will repeat the winning formula we had for 2013 FIBA Americas Championship."

Representing FIBA, the Secretary General Emeritus of FIBA Americas Mr. Gennaro "Tuto" Marchand added, "is a great pleasure, that Telemundo again convey the great events of FIBA. I know the people of Puerto Rico will properly see these events. "

For his part, the President of the Basketball Federation of Puerto Rico, Mr. Carlos Beltran, said, "We are confident that we will have a contending team. We know that we will pass the first round and will be among the top 8 teams in the world."

The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be played from August 30 to September 14, in Spain in the cities of Barcelona, Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Granada, Madrid and Seville, while the 2014 Centrobasket will be played from the 19 to the 26 of July in Monterrey, Mexico.

The FIBA World Cup, known from 1950 to 2010 as the FIBA World Championship, is the premier organized event by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and faces 24 teams from all continents. The FIBA Basketball World Cup has been the stage for some of the biggest stars of international basketball - from Oscar Schmidt and Nikos Galis up to Pau Gasol and Kevin Durant and many others among them.
