New dates for the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship
The Secretary General of FIBA Americas, Alberto Garcia today confirmed the date of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship to be played in Venezuela.
Garcia said the tournament that will award four spots to the 2014 World Cup in Spain will be held on Friday, August 30 through Wednesday, September 11 in the Poliedro of Caracas.
The ten countries that will be competing are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and the host country.
A United States is already qualified to the 2014 World Cup, by virtue of being Olympic champion after winning in London.
As part of the Group D series of the 2012 South American Basketball League, held this weekend in La Guaira, the President of the Venezuelan Basketball Federation, Mr. Carmelo Cortez spoke to Fibaamericas.com about the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship, the national team and the pride of a country that will have organized two major international championships in just over a year.
