The Secretary General of FIBA Americas, Alberto García has confirmed the date of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship to be played in Caracas, Venezuela.
García said the tournament, that will award four seats to the 2014 World Cup in Spain, will be held from Tuesday, August 20 to Sunday, September 1 in the Poliedro of Caracas.
"We will travel on October 1 to Venezuela where will meet with the authorities to finalize the details of the Championship. Present in the meeting will be Javier Otero (event director), Aníbal García (athletic director) and I", said.
Carmelo Cortez, president of the Venezuelan Basketball Federation, spoke to Liderendeportes.com and told them that the meeting with representatives of FIBA Americas will take place in Caracas on October 3, 4 and 5.
"On the 3rd we will sign the contract for the organization of the tournament, we have a press conference scheduled on the 4th and on the 5th there will be a meeting at which FIBA Americas will present a support plan for basketball in Venezuela from 2013 to 2020 (Vision 2020)", said Cortez.
The countries that will be competing in the 2013 Championship are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and the host country.
United States has already qualified to the 2014 World Cup, by virtue of their Olympic gold medal victory in London.
