The FIBA AMERICAS (Pan-American Basketball Confederation ), is
a non-profit organization that represents the International Basketball
Federation (FIBA), in the American continent, with jurisdiction from Canada to
Argentina. The same one was created according from what was established in the
article 43 of the general by-laws of the international basketball federation,
FIBA. It was founded on October 11, 1975 in the city de Mexico. Mr. Horacio Muratore
(Argentina) is the president of FIBA Americas. The secretariat general is located
in San Juan, Puerto Rico and it is directed by Mr. Alberto Garcia,
Secretary General.
FIBA America is divided into three zones, these are;
1) The North area, that is integrated by Canada and the United States.
2) The Central America area and the Caribbean, which is divided in two
organizations, which are: Caribbean and Central America, these, in turn, are
sheltered in the central American and Caribbean confederations of basketball (CONCECABA).

Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominique, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat,
Antillas Holandesas, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Saint Vincent &
Grenadines, St. Kitts, & Nevis, St. Marteen, St. Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad &
Tobago, Turks & Caicos, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Central América
Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua And
Panama .
3) The South American zone is constituted by 10 countries of the south
cone.
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Equator, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay
And Venezuela.
The FIBA AMERICAS organizations are:
The general assembly, which meets in ordinary session every four years, in near
date to the senior masculine world championship. The executive committee, the
secretariat general and the permanent international commissions, those are: the
technical committee, finances committee, by-laws and regulations committee,
international organizations committee, women's basketball committee, commission
for juvenile men's basketball committee, juvenile women's basketball committee,
eligibility committee, basketball committee of handicapped's. A special economic
committee has been designated that meets at least two times a year which submits
their progress reports in the executive committee meetings. We also have the
medical council and the international committee of mini basketball.
FIBA AMERICAS controls, establishes the by-laws and regulations, technically
leads and guides the basketball competitions, for men and women, between
national selections or clubs that at Pan-American levels get organized and where
there are countries or teams participating from more than one zone.
Organizes and controls, in coordination with fiba the men's and women's
Pre-Olympic tournaments, determining the financial system and the competition
system. Also, organizes and controls, in coordination with FIBA, the tournaments
of the Americas that will classify for the men's and women's world championships
and the category of young men. Previous to these events, there are tournaments
of the sub-zones that are held where the representatives of the Central American
and the Caribbean zones are selected, which will participate in the FIBA Americas Championships or Pre-Olympics. On the same way South American tournaments are
carried out.
Also FIBA Americas technically directs the zonal and Pan-American basketball

panamericana (ODEPA). For these events our secretariat rules governs and
controls the assignment of referees.
Throughout our organization we broadcast and enforce the actual game rules,
approved by FIBA. With this goal we designed a course of clinics at
national level, under the technical commission supervision and in coordination
with our adjunct secretaries general.
Also, we carry out in coordination with FIBA, international clinics for
referees. A program of referees instructors have been also designed and
established with the sole purpose of keeping the uniformity in the teaching when
implementing the game rules.
